The Estate

The Estate is an 8-acre property in Queensland built with family living and entertaining in mind. 

Built during the COVID-19 pandemic, this created a unique set of challenges with supply chain disruption across multiple industries. The size of the property, plus the number of individual buildings and outdoor areas that all needed to be connected to the smart home system via a fibre network, required significant coordination and planning between the different trades and suppliers. 

The focus of this case study is the extensive use of Sonance throughout the property.

Bar 83 underwent a renovation project which included a number of upgrades to the audio reinforcement system. The goal was simple: pristine background music, easy control, and the capacity to crank it up at nighttime as guest DJs come through.

The artist shares his experience using the SSL UF8

Cam Trewin has been in the music industry for almost two decades. Trewin started out at Joe Camelleri’s (The Black Sorrows, Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons) Woodstock Studios in St Kilda where he started out as an assistant engineer. Trewin worked with artists such as John Butler Trio, Ross Wilson, Tim Rogers, Pete Murray, Saskwatch and Kingswood. 

Trewin then started to do more live engineering alongside studio work. Part-time in-house engineer at The Esplanade Hotel was a massive opportunity to work alongside international acts such as Mix Master Mike (Beastie Boys) through to De La Soul.

The gymnasium, part of the school’s Sports Complex, is used to host regular assemblies and Chapel Services as well as special functions such as the annual Student Leadership Induction Service.

Cheers Bar and Grill is Sydney’s premier live sporting venue, located in George Street in Sydney’s CBD. Set over three levels, patrons can enjoy a wide variety of sports from around the world 24/7 on multiple screens spread throughout the building.

In January 2020, Cheers Bar & Grill commenced a venue-wide refurbishment. CAV and the team at Amber Technology worked together on an audio solution for the venue featuring Xilica and Australian Monitor.

The Ritz Carlton is Perth’s newest luxury hotel. A $400 million dollar project, including two residential and hotel towers, the site was in construction for three years. Rockboard* Musician Daniel Romano shares his experience using the Warwick Rockboard Quad 4.2 with Module 1

Daniel Romano has been working in the Melbourne entertainment scene for around 20 years. Currently he is working with a cover band called “Adam12” who are doing 3 to 4 shows a week. He also has an original band called “Welcome to the Numb”, they are in the process of releasing a new EP which they recorded with producer Peter Reggie Bowman.



Sonance CEDIA APAC Awards 2019

Winner of Best Innovative System - Smart Home Solutions

Smart Home Solutions used a house music amp to receive all of the home’s music sources and back-fed audio from the TVs. They then sent the ‘loop’ audio to a processor as well as amplified audio to concealed Sonance speakers.

All speakers were concealed within linear air conditioning grills both functional and dummy.

No speakers at all were visible. The net effect in all spaces was clear, crisp audio emanating from an unidentifiable source.

Prior to opening, hotel executives worked with David Walker from CoveMoon who, in consultation with Amber Technology, designed and implemented the audio plan for the Rooftop Bar, ground floor meeting rooms, VIP deck and reception area. transforming it into a world-class, multifunctional entertainment area. CoveMoon then went on to complete the installation of the project.

The Centre expands projector offerings by installing HIGHLite Laser II

The George Hogg Auditorium is the largest theatre and formal dining room in Ipswich, capable of seating up to 741 people. The Auditorium is renowned for its latest technology in audio-visual support, conference or theatre-style seating configurations and top-notch catering options.

The ageing video projector in the auditorium needed to be replaced. The Civic Centre technical staff also wanted to add different lens options to allow for a variety of projector placements and screen sizes, increasing their flexibility in their projection offerings to potential event customers.

Helensvale Library, GCCC, Optoma Installation

Gold Coast City Council's Helensvale Library and Cultural Centre is a recently developed integrated facility featuring a library, divisional councillor's office, customer service centre and community centre.

The facilitiy has a 200 seat auditorium and black box theatre, rehearsal space, dance studio, visual arts room and a state of the art recording studio.  It is designed to generate a creative hub for individuals, groups and organisation in the community to share in various types of imaginative projects, including music, drama, dance, touring performaces and local talent.

Orange Ex-Services Club, AV Upgrade

Orange Ex-Services Club is a community club located in rural NSW. The Coral Sea Room is the main function room of the Club, a 400 seat cabaret-style room catering for a wide variety of functions ranging from weddings and gala dinners through to meetings for the Club’s members.

The Coral Sea Room underwent a major refurbishment in October 2015, which included the installation of a new PA system for the room.

Sky News mixes Business & Weather with Kahuna

Kahuna and VizRT integrate together

Australian News Channel (Sky News) is a leading news provider in the Australian and New Zealand market with multi-platform delivery of breaking news and headlines, business, sport and weather, as well as entertainment.

For this project Sky News required two new vision mixers for their Business and Weather channels, to be integrated seamlessly with the existing VizRT Mosart automation control system.

Kahuna 4800 vision mixers were selected as the best solution for this project.

WAAPA lecture theatre transformed

Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) is one of Australia’s most prestigious performing arts institutions, recognised nationally and internationally for its graduates, with state-of-the-art performance and teaching facilities.

An existing lecture theatre was converted into a performance space – The Music Box Theatre. The Music Box Theatre on the Mount Lawley campus of Edith Cowen University is used for contemporary jazz and modern rock performances by students and guest artists. The project needed to deliver the required sound results, whilst taking into account the impact on an adjacent lecture theatre and the limitations of the existing set up.

The National Trusts of Australia (NTA) are community-based, non-profit, non-government organisations committed to promoting and conserving Australia’s indigenous, natural, and historic heritage. The NTA (Victoria) is the producer behind the Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries Costume Exhibition (MFMMCE) at the historic Rippon Lea mansion in Melbourne, Victoria. The exhibition features costumes and props from the popular Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries television program featured on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).

KVM connects users to enable learning

Correctional Facility enable learning and recreational outcomes

A high security correction facility in Australia was installing an in-cell computer and video access system to allow education learning and controlled recreational activities for inmates. 110 centrally managed computers were needed to connect to a workstation comprising of a keyboard, screen, audio and mouse. The “in-cell” workstations needed to provide access to content, internet and additional facilities for remote learning and other activities. Access and availability needed to be centrally managed by correctional services staff based on the security and user requirements.

Optoma emerges on VIVID 2014

Bringing e|MERGEnce 3D sculpture to life at VIVID Sydney

Vivid Sydney is an annual festival of light, music and ideas where art, technology and commerce intersect, held in May - June each year in the Sydney CBD and surrounding areas. The event attracts more than one and a half million visitors over 18 days. The Buchan Group, an Australian-based international design practice, created the innovative interactive sculpture installation e|MERGEnce in 2014. e|MERGEnce was a 3D sculpted head rising from Martin Place that visitors could interact with in real time, creating a vision of sound, colour and lights. Optoma projectors were chosen to create the projection component of the installation and facilitate the visual interaction with visitors.
